Tick Tock Bitches! So many crimes, such little time. PLL 7.01 Legal Recap!

Mary Drake, who the actress refers to as “the new b*tch in town” just became the new owner of the scariest resort on earth, The Lost Woods Resort. She immediately goes to the police station to report a break in, which Ezra astutely points out, was orchestrated by the liars and company. This makes them look bad in the eyes of the law.

And the crime they conspired to commit: 18 PA Cons. Stat. § 3503. Criminal trespass.

The reason this was trespass and not burglary is because burglary requires intent to commit a crime inside after breaking in. The way I remember it, they broke into the resort to use it as a meeting spot between Hanna and A.D.

However, some other characters would likely be guilty of burglary for their conduct at Ali and Elliot’s house. Aria, Ezra and Emily all went into that house during this episode without permission and with the intent to find and steal any clues that implicated Ali in killing Charlotte. It doesn’t matter that Ezra and Aria didn’t find anything; the intent was still there. In Emily’s case, she stole the red jacket that the PLLs believe Ali was wearing the night of Charlotte’s death. Unfortunately for them, taking on a murder mystery doesn’t mean they can break the law.

While Mona and Caleb stake out Mary Drake’s every move, Mona hacks into Mary’s phone, meaning that both of them are committing a crime.

Mona and Caleb’s Broken Law!

18 Pa. Cons. Stat. § 5703. Interception, disclosure or use of wire, electronic or oral communications.

Hacking is their main crime, but Caleb might argue Mona committed a worse crime by “shhhing” him during the stakeout.

At the end of the episode, Elliott taunts Ali in her hospital room and vows to keep Ali drugged so that she can rot away in the mental hospital forever. I hope he realizes that the judge will not care that he believes Ali killed Charlotte; his conduct is tremendously illegal and creepy.

Rollins’s Broken Law!

049 Pa. Code § 16.61. Unprofessional and immoral conduct (in relevant part).

Thanks for reading and stay tuned! I am sure we are in for more bad behavior.
