*This will contain relevant broken laws from episode 2×01.

This episode starts with a flashback of Emily/Amanda with her mother singing in the car. In present time, Nolan wakes Emily up from the nightmare induced by the Victoria Grayson horror movie, as Nolan calls it. Emily insists that the white-haired man won’t kill her. She tells Nolan that Victoria was lying about the government protecting her.

Emily calls Daniel to tell him that Charlotte is scared of her doctor. She reveals that she did research on the doctor and he has a history of keeping patients longer than usual. Emily insinuates that the doctor may have fixed the drug test, which we know is true based on the events in the previous episode. Daniel asks Emily to email him everything she found about Charlotte’s doctor. The arrangement between Conrad and Charlotte’s doctor breaks a myriad of laws.

Daniel asks Emily to email him what she found on Charlotte’s doctor.

Aiden is seen spying on Emily. Charlotte gets questioned by her fantastic doctor and sticks to her story that the drug test was wrong and that her dad is holding her at the rehab facility against her will.

Emily gets back inside to watch the stream of the white-haired man talking to Victoria. He gives her two fake passports bearing the names Veronica and Samantha Clarke. Victoria plans to flee the country with Charlotte, equipped with their new fake identities. Victoria says that she can’t pay the white-haired man until she gets Charlotte’s inheritance money. As he leaves, he threatens, “Your daughter’s a drug addict and you’re already dead. That makes you both easy to dispose of.” Just in case anyone was wondering, the white-haired man and Victoria are not abiding by New York or federal law.

Since the amount of money in the inheritance Victoria was planning to obtain is well over one million dollars, and the following broken law includes the attempt to obtain money (even if the attempt is unsuccessful), they’d also be guilty of:

Nolan asks Emily what she plans to do to Victoria, and she replies that she wants the punishment to fit the crime, and Victoria took her mother away from her. One of Declan’s classmates asks him to come sailing with him and his friends, but he declines because he needs to work on the boat. Declan mentions how badly he needs the money. Declan turns away, so he doesn’t see the suspicious expression on the guy’s face.

Nolan’s company is getting audited, which he learns about via video chat (he’s not even wearing pants) with the rest of his employees who are present at a company meeting. A woman named Padma wants Nolan to hire a CFO for the company. Emily asks how Nolan’s house hunting is going, giving him a subtle hint.

Amanda corners Emily, asking what Emily said to Jack to make him want her to get a paternity test. Amanda admits that she had a one-night stand, but she still thinks that the baby is Jack’s. She insists that she really does love Jack. Emily apologizes for getting in the way of her relationship, and she offers to ensure the lab results for Amanda. The catch is that she needs something from Amanda too. Note: we later learn that there was no need for Emily to do this, but if she had tampered with the results, it would be illegal.

Ashley asks to speak with Conrad. She reveals that Daniel was going over the financial information for the company and mentioned that something wasn’t adding up. Conrad instructs Ashley to keep Daniel away from the investors meeting that’s taking place later.

Daniel storms into the rehab facility where Charlotte’s staying and goes ballistic on her doctor, threatening to sue. He’s sure to mention that the doctor is no stranger to abuse of power. Daniel is a walking, talking version of this blog; he’s calling people out for their crimes on TV. Daniel tells Charlotte to get her stuff because he’s having her released. He tells her that she was right; her father was keeping her there deliberately to get a power of attorney and access to Charlotte’s inheritance. Charlotte still refuses to go with Daniel because she’s angry that he didn’t believe her in the first place.

Emily arrives at the rehab facility and Charlotte asks her for a ride home. Charlotte asks Emily to take her to Victoria. Declan is having major issues working at the bar; he forgot to turn off the water when he was working with the pipes. He’s bitter about all of the time Jack is spending on Amanda and the baby they’re expecting. Amanda leaves to go “shopping with Emily for baby clothes.” Jack tells Declan about the paternity test. Declan gets furious when Jack suggests that he might raise the child even if it isn’t his.

Emily invites Charlotte to stay with her. Charlotte tells Emily that Conrad drained her bank account, so she doesn’t know how Victoria will go on with her plan to run away with new identities. Charlotte finds out that Amanda is pregnant. Charlotte is going to be an aunt, or so she thinks, since she has no idea that she has no relation at all to “Amanda” and that Emily is really her sister.

Charlotte knocks on Victoria’s door, and at first, Victoria is thrilled to see her. Charlotte tells her that Dr. Thomas confiscated her phone and that Conrad drained Charlotte’s bank account by having a judge declare that she was mentally unfit. Charlotte offers to get money for Victoria, but says that she can’t go with her because she’s going to be an aunt. Victoria is appalled at the thought of Daniel getting Emily pregnant, but Charlotte explains that her sister, Amanda is pregnant. Charlotte demands to know why Victoria seems more upset about the money than the fact that Charlotte isn’t going with her. Victoria says that she was just using Charlotte to get the money. Charlotte calls Victoria a monster. Nolan suggests that Victoria’s doing this to save Charlotte, but Emily’s not buying it.

Padma shows up at Emily’s to see Nolan. She berates him for never showing up at the office and asks once again for him to hire a CFO. Nolan agrees, but asks her to turn around so that he can put pants on. Daniel bursts into Conrad’s meeting with the company’s investors. He screams at Conrad and reveals that he knows what he did to Charlotte and her bank account. Conrad argues that if Daniel really wanted to help, he could have given him access to his trust fund when he asked for it.

Victoria calls Conrad, who seems shocked to hear from her. Victoria threatens to haunt him forever if he doesn’t do everything she says. Conrad shows up to see her and remarks that even the devil himself didn’t want Victoria. Victoria accuses Conrad of trying to murder her, but he denies it, saying that he told her not to get on the plane. Congratulations, Conrad Grayson, I’m pretty sure this is the worst crime I’ve covered in this blog since its creation:

Victoria requests for Conrad to hit her, and we see later that he decks her, hard, in the face. It looks like the most fun Conrad has had in the entire show. Nolan and Padma discuss business. Nolan suggests that Padma should take the job. He explains that he wants a partner who he can control. *Note that I did not label this as assault because Victoria gave Conrad her consent, as messed up as that may be.

Jack and Amanda get the paternity test results which reveal that Jack is the father. Jack seems incredibly relieved about this and thanks her for getting the test. Amanda calls Emily and asks if the baby is really Jack’s. Emily says that the baby isn’t really Jack’s, but she’s lying.

Daniel informs Charlotte that he opened up a new bank account for Charlotte and he put half of his trust fund in it. He assures her that her parents will not be able to access the account. Charlotte decides to stay home after all instead of staying at Emily’s. Apparently money sometimes does buy happiness.

The white-haired man shows up at Victoria’s armed with a gun. He sees the injuries (inflicted by Conrad), and Victoria informs him that he’s being framed for hurting her. He holds a gun to her head, but then he hears cops cars coming, so he makes a run for it. This still, however, presents a problem because of the whole attempted murder thing.

Emily gets home expecting to find Nolan, but her fashionable, technologically savvy sidekick is nowhere to be found. She opens the computer and sees what’s going on at Victoria’s house. Conrad shows up at the house and Daniel attempts to kick him out, until he sees Victoria. Victoria acts like she’s thrilled to reunite with her family, and Conrad claims that Victoria had been abducted and held for a ransom. Victoria tells Charlotte not to reveal to Conrad that she knew about Victoria’s initial plan. Charlotte insists that Victoria can trust Emily not to say anything either.

Conrad speaks to a detective about the alleged kidnapping. The same guy from before shows up at Declan’s boat, asking him to hold onto an expensive piece of jewelry. He stole it from his step-mother, and he’s sure that she’ll just blame it on the maid. He offers to give Declan $500 to hold onto it for a few days.

Charlotte asks Emily if she will keep their secret. Emily asks to talk to Victoria. Victoria thanks Emily for how kind she was to Charlotte. Emily tells Victoria that if she needs anything at all, she’ll be here all summer. Daniel also thanks Emily for how helpful she has been. Emily gets a phone call from a blocked number; it’s the white-haired man! He wants the videos that Emily and Nolan have of everything that happened with Victoria. Emily tells Nolan that she lied to Amanda about the test results and the baby is really Jack’s. Jack tells Declan that the baby is his. Declan says that he plans on getting his own place as soon as he can gather enough cash. Amanda comes in telling Jack to turn on the TV. Victoria is on the news; her “kidnapping” has gone public.

Emily insists that Nolan go somewhere else tonight; she needs to be alone. She shows the video of Conrad bashing Victoria in the face to the white-haired man and offers to give the videos to him as proof that he didn’t hurt Victoria. Before she hands them over, Emily wants information about her mother from him. The white-haired man says that Emily’s mom could have exonerated her father. We see a flashback of Victoria and the white-haired man visiting Emily’s mother at the mental hospital. Victoria tells Emily’s mom that David is a murderer and a terrorist. Emily’s mother laughs in her face. Victoria continues trying to convince Emily’s mother that her version of the story is true. She introduces the white-haired man to her as Federal Agent Gordon Murphy, the man that will arrest David Clarke for being behind the terrorist plane crash. He promises to keep her safe, and Victoria assures her that her daughter is in good hands. Victoria says that Emily’s mom’s life depends on whether or not she allows them to help her.

In present time, Emily asks if the white-haired man killed her mom. He says that he planned to. When Emily asks what really happened, he abruptly takes out a knife and holds it at Emily’s throat. He says “too bad you’ll never know. Goodbye Amanda.” Right when he is about to stab Emily, Aiden shows up out of nowhere and kills the white-haired man.

And of course we must acknowledge that Aiden just killed somebody. He would be justified by self defense/ defense of another, since the white-haired man would have killed Emily had Aiden not intervened. If Aiden did NOT have this defense, he would be guilty of:
